Important Notes

It's grey and drizzly outside. Or maybe it's the smoke from the chimneys on the squat brick buildings looming ahead. But it doesn't smell like wood fire. Or coal. The air stinks. A boy walks between a man and a woman. He's maybe twelve or thirteen years old. They're walking hunched and cowed like everyone in the crowd around them. Armed men in military uniforms stand watchful as the crowd is ushered through a wrought iron gate, the words 'Arbeit Macht Frei' spelled out across the top. As they pass through, the soldiers pull people out of the group. They grab the boy. The woman screams his name - ERIK - but she understands enough of what's happening to know there's no appealing to the guards for mercy; she doesn't beg for her child back. She screams, instead, a message to her son: "Ich liebe dich!" The child struggles in their grasp, reaching for her. "MAMA!" A metallic hum fills the air. That groaning, creaking sound and the woman screaming 'I love you' in German ring as the image fades.

The boy from the camp gate stands in front of an ornate wooden desk. A woman in threadbare striped clothing is being held by two guards. The man behind the desk tells Erik in clipped textbook German that he must move the coin before the count of three, or he will shoot. His expression is almost bored. The boy looks from the woman to the coin. He tries, but he doesn't know how. The woman keeps repeating that everything is okay. The man counts. The gun fires. The woman's body hits the floor. The boy screams, a metallic whine filling the air behind it as the scene fades away.

{If Sylar looks at the screen again, though, he might catch a glimpse of a tattoo that will remind him of some memories he saw once, while Erik makes the attempt to get rid of them.}


Everyday is a second chance.
You will stumble, yes. But don't stay down. Don't give up. Get up and move forward.
If you allow it, it will continue.
You didn't come this far, only to come this far.
You're closer than you were yesterday.
If you make excuses, you don't want it bad enough.
The hardest thing and the right thing are almost always the same thing.
Choose to hope.
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
